MSU?s Lee Set To Open Play In 2015 NCAA Singles Championship

STARKVILLE, Miss. – Looking to add to an already remarkable season, Mississippi State women’s tennis standout Jasmine Lee will travel to Waco, Texas, this week for the 2015 NCAA Singles Championship at the Hurd Tennis Center on the campus of Baylor University.
Ranked 23rd in the latest ITA National Singles Rankings, Lee begins competition in the NCAA Singles field of 64 on Wednesday, May 20. The MSU sophomore will face Stetson’s No. 91 Alizee Michaud at 4:30 p.m. CT in the first round.
Named All-SEC First Team this season in her initial collegiate campaign, Lee is 16-7 this season after joining the Bulldog squad early in the spring. All of Lee’s matches have come at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions in State’s lineup, with six wins coming at the top spot in the powerful SEC. She helped MSU to its first NCAA appearance as a team in 10 years.
Six of the Kaohsiung, Taiwan, native’s wins have come against ranked opponents (four in the top 50), with her highest against Ole Miss’ No. 12 Julia Jones on April 11. Her current No. 23 ranking is the highest by an MSU player since 2005.
Named the ITA Southern Region Player to Watch, Lee will look to become MSU’s first ITA All-American since 1989, when Jackie Holden and Claire Pollard claimed that status after capturing the NCAA Doubles Championship that season. To achieve that honor, Lee will need a pair of wins this week to reach the round of 16.
MSU women’s tennis has now had a representative in the NCAA Singles Championship in consecutive years for the first time in school history (Georgiana Patrasc in 2014). Lee’s bid also marks the eighth time overall that a Bulldog has earned an NCAA singles selection.
