McDonald, Peng Tabbed All-SEC In Women's Golf
Starkville, Miss. – Success on the golf course has parlayed into deserving recognition for Mississippi State standouts Ally McDonald and Jessica Peng, as the two earned All-SEC accolades on Friday.
McDonald, a senior All-American, was tabbed first-team All-SEC, while Peng garnered second-team honors.
“It is such an honor to make the All-SEC team,” McDonald said. “The SEC is such a strong conference, with a lot of the best players.
The Fulton, Miss., native has been named to the first team three-consecutive years after making All-SEC freshman team her first season. Ranked No. 8 by GolfStat, McDonald holds the majority of Mississippi State individual records. This season she placed in the Top 10 in four tournaments, winning twice. In the fall, set the school and course record at the Belmar Golf Club in the Schooner Classic (Norman, Okla.) with a 63.
“It really is a privilege to have my name with some of the best players in the country,” McDonald added.
Peng, a sophomore who made the freshman All-SEC squad a year ago, is currently ranked No. 15 by GolfState. Since her arrival, Peng has had a large impact on the MSU women’s golf team.
She has recorded the most birdies on the team this season with 89. In the nine tournaments played this year, she has placed in the Top 10 seven times. At the Schooner Fall Classic, she placed third with a 7-under-par.
“I was worried that I couldn’t achieve my goal of making All-SEC again this year, because I didn’t preform as well as I’d like in my last few events,” Peng said. “I am very excited to be named to this honor again, and it helps me to keep working hard and keep striving to reach my goals. I am preparing for the NCAA Tournaments to try to finish strong.”
The two resume play with the rest of the squad on May 7-9 at the NCAA Regionals in Raleigh, N.C.
