Happy Wednesday, everyone!
As the spring semester rolls along, it can sometimes be easy to get too occupied with where teams are going and forget to stop and enjoy where they are now. This time of year has been incredibly successful for Mississippi State lately, and as we sit today we have four teams in action right now who are ranked Top 20 in the country!
Congratulations to our women’s golf, men’s tennis, men’s track and women’s track teams for their success, and they’re not the only ones enjoying a big year.
Our women’s tennis team is moving up the rankings, softball has a top 25 RPI and baseball just won a series at home against the No. 13 team in the country. It’s hard not to have fun being a Bulldog right now.
Speaking of, we’ve got Super Bulldog Weekend next week. We’ll have all the information you could need on SBW 15 activities over the coming days, but let this serve as one last reminder to clear your schedule April 17-19 and come see us.
HOME MEET FOR TRACK AND FIELD
That said, you don’t have to wait until Super Bulldog Weekend to come out and enjoy the sun in Starkville. Coach Steve Dudley and his teams are hosting their first of two regular-season home meets this year on the outdoor schedule, an opportunity to see our nationally-ranked men’s and women’s teams in action. It’s the annual Border Clash meet between competitors from Mississippi and Alabama.
On Friday at 5:00 p.m., we will have a dedication ceremony to name our overall facility, which includes the Carl Maddox Track and Spencer Stadium, the Mike Sanders Track Complex, preceded by a 4:00 reception. Please join us as we honor a great Bulldog … Mike was a star on Mississippi State’s 1962 SEC Championship track team. (FYI … don’t forget that we are hosting this year’s SEC Track & Field championships, May 14-16).
Also, I want to congratulate current Bulldog Marcus Jackson, our incredibly talented high jumper who broke his own school record with a leap of seven feet, five and three-quarter inches at the Pepsi Florida Relays last weekend. Job well done, Marcus.
MEN’S TENNIS ON A ROLL
While we’re congratulating people, a big hand goes to Coach Matt Roberts and the men’s tennis team, who is now 20th in the country and has won five straight SEC matches. Our Bulldogs have been on a hot streak and their back-to-back home wins over No. 6 Georgia (the defending SEC champs) and South Carolina over the weekend were particularly impressive.
The guys are on the road Friday at Vanderbilt but return home for the regular season finale on Sunday at 1 p.m. against LSU. If we have our way, this won’t be the last home match of the year for our NCAA Tournament-bound Bulldogs, as the top 16 teams host first- and second-round NCAA Tournament matches in May.
OTHER NOTES
Congratulations to softball for their weekend sweep of Arkansas on the road, and good luck as they host No. 1 LSU tonight and play at Missouri this weekend. Coach Vann Stuedeman’s club has won seven of its last nine games and is well positioned for a run to a fourth-straight NCAA Tourney bid.
Good luck this weekend to our Bulldogs on the road as baseball travels to Texas A&M and women’s tennis plays at Ole Miss on Saturday.
We appreciate what you do for Mississippi State Athletics and want to encourage you to get others involved. There are three things you can do to help the athletic department at Mississippi State reach its desired goals –
1. Buy Season Tickets
2. Financially Support the Bulldog Club
3. Get Others To Do The Same
Thanks for taking the time to read this Update.
Hail State!
