MSU?s Lee Earns Berth In 2015 NCAA Singles Championship

STARKVILLE, Miss. - Mississippi State women's tennis standout Jasmine Lee has been selected to compete in the 2015 NCAA Singles Championship May 20-25 in Waco, Texas, as announced by the NCAA Division I Selection Committee Wednesday.
Currently ranked 24th nationally, the sophomore Lee has notched a 16-6 overall record this year, playing all of her contests at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions in State's lineup. The Khaosiung, Taiwan, native was 8-5 in Southeastern Conference matches in her first season on the collegiate level.
A first-team All-SEC selection, Lee made her MSU debut on Jan. 31 against UAB. She started her Bulldog career by winning 12 of her first 13 matches, including a win against 26th-ranked Erin Routliffe to help the Bulldogs to their best win in program history, a 4-3 upset against then-No. 6 Alabama on Mar. 15. Her highest ranked win was versus Ole Miss’ 12th-ranked Julia Jones on April 11.
Lee earned six total wins against ranked opponents this season (four in the top 50), leading the team in that category.
With Lee’s at-large selection, it marks the second consecutive season that the Bulldogs have had a player selected to the NCAA Singles Championship, as Georgiana Patrasc earned a berth last season. This is also the eighth time that an MSU women’s tennis player has earned a selection to the championship.
The draw for the 64-player NCAA Singles Championship will be released closer to the start of the tournament. First-round action begins Wednesday, May 20, at Baylor’s Hurd Tennis Center.
Lee and the remainder of the Bulldog squad are now preparing for the 2015 NCAA Team Championship. MSU learned Tuesday that it had been selected for the 64-team field. State, ranked 34th nationally, faces No. 29 Houston in the NCAA First Round on Friday, May 8, in Berkeley, Calif.
