Diamond Dawgs Look To Win Third Straight Governor's Cup Tuesday

STARKVILLE, Miss. – Mississippi State baseball (23-21, 7-14 SEC) travels to Pearl, Miss., Tuesday for the annual Governor’s Cup game against in-state rival Ole Miss (23-22, 10-11 SEC) at Trustmark Park. First pitch for the non-conference game is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

- Mississippi State is 5-3 all-time in Governor’s Cup games with wins in 2007-08, 2011 and 2013-14.
- State is looking to become the first school to win three straight Governor’s Cup games.
- Tuesday starter Ross Mitchell is tied for fourth among active NCAA pitchers with 27 career wins.
- In Mitchell’s only career appearance in the Governor’s Cup, the southpaw was the winning pitcher in the 5-1 win on April 9, 2013, tossing six shutout innings with two hits allowed.
- Mitchell is making his first start of 2015. MSU is 8-5 in his previous 13 career starts (2.78 ERA).
- In four games against Ole Miss last spring, All-SEC catcher Gavin Collins hit .400 (6-for-15) with four RBIs.

- In three games at Top-25 Arkansas this past weekend, sophomore center fielder Jacob Robson went 8-for-14 (.571).
- Sophomore infielder Luke Reynolds is coming off a career-high four-hit game at Arkansas this past Sunday.
- Mississippi State’s pitching staff is tied with Bucknell for the NCAA lead in groundouts (510). As a result, MSU is second in the country with 52 double plays and first in the NCAA since 2012 with 253 twin killings.
- In SEC games only, the Maroon and White are tied with No. 1 LSU for the fewest strikeouts (110).
- State is 21-3 when leading after six innings, but 2-18 when trailing or tied after six stanzas.
