MSU 17 Strokes Better In Second Round at SECs
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – After a rainy first round Friday, the Mississippi State women’s golf team found it’s rhythm and moved up three spots to 10th place after improving 17 stokes on Saturday.
After firing a 308 on Friday, MSU carded a 291 in Saturday’s round.
“We came out and had a better round today, moving up the ladder. We are now very close to finishing in the top half. With the round we had (Friday), today’s round is quite an accomplishment,” MSU coach Ginger Brown-Lemm said. “The SEC is a very tough conference. We would love for circumstances to be different, but we are going to give it our best no matter what.”
Paving the way for the Bulldogs was senior Ally McDonald. Firing a 69 in the second round, she led the way for the Bulldogs and is now tied for eighth individually.
Having the largest improvement from Friday’s round was senior Rica Tse, who shaved off eight strokes. Tying Jessica Peng for the most birdies in the second round, Tse shot 2-under to par on the back nine. Firing a 71, she ended the day tied for 33rd.
Finding her groove quick, sophomore Jessica Peng shot -1 on the front nine holes en route to totaling a 73.
Blaise Carabello fired a 78, five strokes better than her first round. Shooting par on the majority of the holes, Carabello recorded one birdie.
Sophomore Ji Eun Baik fired an 81.
MSU resumes play Sunday for the final round of the SEC Championship at 10 p.m. CT.
