Bougard Wins Heptathlon At Mt. SAC Relays

WALNUT, Calif. – Success from day one carried over into day two as senior Erica Bougard won her first multi event of the season at the Mt. SAC Relays.
Bougard finished the heptathlon with 5,962 points on Thursday. She placed third overall, but was the first collegiate athlete. After capping day one with 3,650 points, Bougard captured 912 points in the long jump with a leap of 20-04.25 to finish in third. With a throw of 93-11 in the javelin, Bougard placed 17th. In the 800m run, the last event of the heptathlon, she placed second with a time of 2:11.08 to earn 949 points.
“We’ve seen a lot of great performances at this meet,” MSU coach Steve Dudley said. “We’re halfway through the season and I continue to be proud of these athletes each and every day. All of them worked hard to get here and we have seen what they can do and hopefully they will continue strong performances throughout the season.”
Thursday night Damian Roszko also made his way into the MSU track and field record books after running the second-best time in school history in the 10,000m run. Roszko’s time of 29:25.35 landed him in eight place in the event.
Friday’s action began with the 100m and 110m hurdles with two Bulldogs finishing in the Top 10. Ste’yce McNeil finished seventh in the 100m hurdles with a time of 13.56, while Jovan Davis placed ninth with a time 14.18 in the 110m hurdles
Also on the track at the Mt. SAC Relays, the women’s 4x400m relay team comprised of McNeil, Ocian Archer, Shayla Luckett and Kimari Martin brought home a first place finish with a time of 3:36.43, the second-best time in school history.
With a time of 4:14.07, sophomore Rhianwedd Price placed ninth in the 1500m run. Distance runner Cornelia Griesche ran a time of 10:14.96 to finish seventh in the 3000m steeplechase.
In the field at the Mt. SAC Relays two Bulldogs finished in the Top 5 of the triple jump. Ebony Brinker placed fourth with a leap of 41-01.75 with teammate Tiffany Flynn following in fifth with a jump of 41-01.50.
Curtis Thompson also finished in the Top 10 in the javelin placing eighth with a throw of 222-07.
Bringing home a first place finish for the Bulldogs at the Bryan Clay Invitational was freshman Juston Waters in the 400m dash with a time of 47.33. Finishing behind Waters in seventh with a time of 48.29 was Charles Taylor.
Waters and Taylor went on to compete in the 200m dash where they both placed in the Top 10 yet again. Waters finished third with a time of 21.37, while Taylor placed ninth after running a time of 21.57.
Day three of the Mt. SAC Relays for the Bulldogs will resume tomorrow at 4 p.m. CT, with Alfred Larry in the 400m relay.
