Howland, Schaefer To Serve As Maroon & White Honorary Coaches
STARKVILLE, Miss. – Mississippi State football culminates a successful spring with the Maroon and White Spring Game as part of Super Bulldog Weekend 2015 presented by Regions Bank at 11 a.m. Saturday in Davis Wade Stadium.
The scrimmage will be televised live on the SEC Network Alternate Channel (check local listings) and on SECNetwork+ via WatchESPN.com and the WatchESPN app. Tom Hart (play-by-play), Tom Luginbill (analyst) and Kayce Smith (reporter) will call the action.
The game will be broadcast on affiliates of the MSU Sports Radio Network with Jim Ellis, Matt Wyatt and John Correro on the call. Satellite radio subscribers can catch the action on Sirius 93 and XM 190.
Admission to the game is free. Gates A, F, H and L open at 9:30 a.m. The first 10,000 fans will receive one free, limited edition poster featuring 2014 National Player of the Year finalist Dak Prescott and 2014 National Coach of the Year Dan Mullen. Bully XXI will make his public debut prior to kickoff.
New men’s basketball coach Ben Howland will serve as the honorary guest coach for the White team, while Vic Schaefer, the 2015 Southeastern Conference Women’s Basketball Co-Coach of the Year, will take the reins of the Maroon squad.
Prescott will lead the Maroon team, which features the first-team defensive line and receivers De’Runnya Wilson and Fred Ross as well as cornerback Will Redmond. Redshirt freshman Nick Fitzgerald will be under center for the White squad that includes the first-team offensive line.
Nine players will be held out of the scrimmage for precautionary health reasons: quarterbacks Damian Williams and Elijah Staley, defensive backs Kendrick Market and Taveze Calhoun, wide receivers Gabe Myles, Jesse Jackson and Malik Dear, running back Brandon Holloway and linebacker Dez Harris.
The first half will be timed similar to a regular game with a 10-minute halftime. The second half will feature running time.
