Bougard Named SEC Women?s Co-Field Athlete Of The Year

STARKVILLE, Miss. – After an outstanding senior indoor track and field season, Mississippi State’s Erica Bougard has been named the SEC Women’s Co-Field Athlete of the Year.
“I’m very proud of Erica,” MSU coach Steve Dudley said. “She’s had an outstanding career at MSU. I’m so happy she is being recognized for all of her hard work and accomplishments. She is an amazing athlete and is so deserving of this award.”
The Byhalia, Miss., native will compete in her last meet of her MSU indoor career at the NCAA Championships Friday and Saturday. This is Bougard’s fourth-consecutive year to attend the championships.
Bougard will leave a behind a legacy at MSU as she has won a NCAA Individual Championship and broken five indoor school records throughout her career, three of which occurred during the current season.
During her sophomore year, Bougard was crowned the NCAA pentathlon champion after claiming 4,399 points to claim the title. Bougard has competed in the pentathlon all four years in the championships, setting the school record during her junior year, scoring 4,586 points.
This upcoming weekend Bougard will be competing for national titles in the 60m hurdles, the long jump and the pentathlon. Her best time of 8.03 in the 60m hurdles, which is the MSU school record, came at the 2015 SEC Championships, where she finished third overall.
Also at the SEC Championships, Bougard broke the school record in the high jump after clearing 5-11.25 to finish fourth. At the conclusion of the SEC Championships, Bougard was named the SEC Women’s MVP.
Bougard will begin competition for the NCAA Indoor Championships in the long jump on March 13 at 6 p.m. The championships will be held at Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville.
After the conclusion of the indoor season, Bougard will turn her attention toward the 2015 outdoor season.
