Bulldog Women?s Tennis To Host Arkansas Sunday

STARKVILLE, Miss. – Fresh off of claiming its first SEC win of the season, the 59th-ranked Mississippi State women’s tennis team will continue its homestand on Sunday, as the No. 44 Arkansas Razorbacks come into town.
Due to rain in the forecast for Sunday afternoon, match time has been moved up to 12 p.m. at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre. The match could be moved indoors to McCarthy Gymnasium in the case of inclement weather. Fans should consult HailStateWT on Twitter for further updates to the match.
The Bulldogs (10-3/1-2 SEC) dropped their first two matches of conference play last weekend, only to rebound with a 4-0 shutout over Missouri on Friday. The win gave the Bulldogs their first 7-0 start at home since the 2004-05 season. MSU’s win also gave the Bulldogs their seventh shutout victory of the season, the most since the 1979-80 campaign.
Sophomore Timea Guibe continues to play well, boasting a 9-0 dual match singles record entering Sunday. At the No. 6 position, Guibe was the only Bulldog to go 2-0 against SEC opponents last weekend, but was one point shy of winning her match Friday, as play was suspended following the clinch.
After dropping her first SEC match at Vanderbilt last weekend, Jasmine Lee has rebounded nicely, winning two straight, including Friday’s 6-0, 6-2 win against Missouri. Lee owns the team’s second-best dual match record at 8-1 on the season. Freshman Louise Ronaldson also had a nice turnaround on Friday, delivering the match clincher at the No. 4 slot and improving her dual match record to 7-5.
State also continues to play well at the other positions, including the No. 3 position, where sophomore Martina Frantova owns an 8-3 dual match record. She also snapped her two-match losing streak on Friday, picking up a 6-3, 6-1 victory. Rounding out the singles lineup for the Bulldogs is 75th-ranked Georgiana Patrasc at No. 1 and freshman Jennifer Brown at No. 5.
Arkansas (11-5/1-1 SEC) comes into Starkville after falling 7-0 at the hands of 17th-ranked Ole Miss on Friday. The Razorbacks are led in singles by Yuliya Lysa, who is 12-2 on the season and 5-1 at the No. 1 slot. Mia Jurasic has led the Razorbacks at the No. 6 position, going 5-2 there and 10-3 on the season. In doubles, Arkansas boasts the tandem of Makenzie Craft and Jurasic, who are 2-0 in SEC play at the No. 2 position.
