Bulldogs Look For Third Straight Top-5 Finish At The Tiger Invitational

OPELIKA, Ala. – Following last week’s eighth place finish at the Louisiana Classics, the Mississippi State men’s golf team is looking to continue its success at the Tiger Invitational after winning the tournament in 2013 and placing third last year.
MSU tees off the three-day, 54-hole event with 18 holes on Sunday at the par-72, 7,149 yard Grand National Lake Course. Tee time is set for 7:45 a.m.
“We look to get on track this week and build on what we did well last couple of weeks,” said MSU coach Clay Homan.
The Bulldogs are in an 16-team field that includes Akron, Jacksonsville State, Ole Miss, Tennessee-Chattanooga, North Carolina-Greensboro, Mercer, South Alabama, Memphis, Georgia State, Santa Clara, Tulsa, Troy, VCU, Kansas State and host #10 Auburn.
“Our ball striking stats are close to where they should be,” said Homan. “We just need to see improvement inside of 125 yards.”
Led by the Top 25 performances of freshman Johnny Newnham and junior Tim Walker, the Maroon & White tallied its sixth top ten finish of the season at last week’s Louisiana Classics.
