Twenty Former Bulldogs Set For 2015 MSU Pro Day Wednesday
STARKVILLE, Miss. – Dozens of NFL coaches, front office personnel and scouts will be on hand at the Leo Seal Jr. Football Complex Wednesday as 20 former Bulldogs showcase their skills at 2015 MSU Pro Day.
Seventeen members of the 2014 squad will go through workouts as will former Bulldogs Tyler Russell, LaDarius Perkins and Nickoe Whitley. The SEC Network will have a crew on hand covering the event, while portions of NFL Network’s ‘Path to the Draft’ show will highlight the day at 5 p.m. CT Wednesday. Pro Day is not open to the public.
“It’s a great opportunity for our guys,” said head coach Dan Mullen. “Most everyone on our team grows up with the dream of playing in the NFL. Not everyone has a chance to go to the NFL Combine, so this is their chance to show teams what they can do. Our guys will perform at a high level.”
Players will have an opportunity to go through six measurable drills – 40-yard dash, bench press, vertical jump, broad jump, three-cone drill and shuttle run – and then conclude the day with position workouts on site.
All-American linebacker Benardrick McKinney and defensive end Preston Smith delivered solid measurements last month in Indianapolis. Smith ran a 4.74 40-yard dash, was timed 11.70 in the 60-yard shuttle and jumped 121.0 inches in the broad jump. The versatile Smith has elevated himself into first round territory.
McKinney ran a 4.66 40-yard dash and was among the best with a 40.5-inch vertical at the NFL Combine. Most mock drafts list the 6-foot-4, 246-pounder as a late first round pick. Both McKinney and Smith will be meeting with teams in Starkville Wednesday.
The impactful senior class who will take the field Wednesday combined to set 15 single-season team records in 2014 en route to 10 regular season victories for the first time and five straight weeks atop the national rankings.
