MSU-Auburn Women?s Tennis Moved Up To Wednesday Morning

STARKVILLE, Miss. – Mississippi State’s scheduled women’s tennis match against Auburn on Wednesday, April 1, has been moved to a morning start to make every effort to complete the match due to possible inclement weather concerns Wednesday afternoon. The match is now slated for a 9 a.m. CT start at MSU’s A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre. Fans should consult @HailStateWT (on Twitter) for further updates on the status of the match.
MSU (13-7, 3-6 SEC), ranked 44th nationally in the latest ITA poll, will be looking to snap a four-match skid, with the Bulldogs’ most recent setbacks coming this past weekend in tough decisions to No. 15 Texas A&M and No. 41 LSU. The Bulldogs continue to feature three ranked players in singles, including 56th-ranked sophomore Jasmine Lee, who comes into the week with a 13-3 dual match record and a team-best six SEC wins. Junior Georgiana Patrasc, ranked 81st, anchors the No. 2 slot for the Bulldogs and is 12-7 in dual match play this season. Freshman Louise Ronaldson rounds out the rankings at No. 124 and has earned eight of her nine dual match victories at the No. 4 position this season.
At the No. 6 position, sophomore Timea Guibe is second on the team in dual match victories, entering the week with a 12-2 record and four SEC victories. In addition the Guibe’s success at the No. 6 slot, fellow sophomore Martina Frantova has also experienced some recent success, winning two consecutive matches this past weekend and moving to 11-6 in dual matches.
Rounding out the singles lineup for the Bulldogs is freshman Jennifer Brown, who owns an 11-6 dual match record, with nine of her victories coming at the No. 5 slot.
Auburn (12-9, 2-7 SEC) comes into the week ranked at No. 42 overall and, most recently, snapped its five-match SEC losing streak with a 4-1 upset against No. 18 Kentucky on Sunday. One of the biggest areas of success for the Tigers has been doubles, where the 10th-ranked duo of Pleun Burgmans and Emily Flickinger have earned a 10-5 dual match record at the No. 1 position. At No. 3, Auburn is led by the tandem of Michala Kucharova and Paula de Man, and have put together an 11-3 record.
In singles, Auburn is led by 68th-ranked Pleun Burgmans at the No. 1 position, who is 7-8 in dual matches this season. Paula de Man has also been a key part of the Tigers’ success this season, leading the team with a 9-1 dual match record with three SEC victories and a perfect 6-0 record at the No. 5 slot.
Later this week, the 44th-ranked Bulldogs will hit the road once again, taking on Tennessee on Friday and No. 5 Georgia on Sunday. Both matches will have live stats available.
