State?s Ronaldson Named SEC Freshman Of The Week

STARKVILLE, Miss. – After earning a thrilling victory to clinch Mississippi State women’s tennis’ upset against No. 6 Alabama this past Sunday, Bulldog Louise Ronaldson has been selected as the SEC Freshman of the Week, as announced by the league office Wednesday.
With the match tied 3-3 Sunday against the Crimson Tide, the rookie Ronaldson fought back from being down a break at 6-5 in the third set for a 6-0, 3-6, 7-6(2) victory over Alabama senior Emily Zabor. That handed State its highest ranked victory in program history and the team climbed 14 spots to No. 27 in this week’s ITA Rankings, its highest national ranking since 2005.
It is the second time this season that Ronaldson has earned the honor, as she did so in January after she earned two wins against Alabama State and Jackson State in the Bulldogs’ season-opening doubleheader.
Ronaldson and the Bulldogs will hit the road this weekend looking for their fourth consecutive SEC win, as MSU faces No. 43 South Carolina on Friday and No. 2 Florida on Sunday.
