Collins Named To 2015 Johnny Bench Award Watch List

Collins, who missed the first 13 games of this season due to injury, made his first start behind the plate Wednesday night against Western Kentucky. As a freshman in 2014, the Lake Forest, Calif., native hit .304 in 48 games, becoming the first catcher in school history to be named to the All-SEC Freshman Team. On his way to earning SEC All-Tournament honors, Collins hit a team-high .360 in 30 games against SEC competition, recording a team-high .456 slugging percentage.
Semifinalists will be announced May 14, with finalists being named June 2. The winner will be announced June 25 at the 18th Annual Greater Wichita Sports Banquet. Current St. Louis Cardinals catcher Ed Easley (2007) is the only Bulldog to previously win the award.
