MSU Men?s Golf Heads To Lafayette For The Louisiana Classics

LAFAYETTE, La. – Coming off its fifth top-10 finish of the season, the Mississippi State men’s golf team returns to the Louisiana Classics for the first time since the 1996-97 season.
MSU tees-off the two-day, 54-hole event with 36 holes on Monday, March 2 at the par-72, 7,098 yard Oakbourne Country Club. Tee time is set for 8 a.m. CT.
“It’s been a while since a Mississippi State team has competed in the Louisiana Classics,” MSU coach Clay Homan said. “It’s a great tournament with a lot of tradition and very good competition.”
The Bulldogs are in a 14-team field that includes the nation’s top-ranked squad of Illinois. Joining the Bulldogs and the Illini are Illinois State, Kansas, Kansas State, Kent State, Middle Tennessee State, Northwestern, South Alabama, Southeastern Louisiana, Texas State, Texas-San Antonio and host Louisiana.
“We look to improve off of last week’s showing by getting off to a better start and playing at a more consistent level,” Homan said.
Last time the Maroon & White took the course was last week at the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollege in Mobile, Ala. The talented freshman duo of Taylor Grant and Johnny Newnham paced the Bulldogs, leading the team to a ninth-place finish.
