The Bulldogs enter Saturday’s tilt with a 12-16 overall record and a 5-10 mark in SEC play after suffering a 74-56 setback against No. 1 Kentucky on Wednesday. Fred Thomas paced Rick Ray’s squad with 14 points, while Craig Sword added 10 points and became the 34th player in school history to eclipse 1,000-career points.
Gavin Ware leads Mississippi State with 10.2 points and 7.4 rebounds per game, while Sword averages a 13.2 scoring clip in conference action.
Frank Martin’s Gamecocks (13-14, 4-11) look to bounce back from a 59-51 loss at Alabama on Saturday. Laimonas Chatkevicius added a game-high 18 points, while Duane Notice tallied 16. Notice leads South Carolina with 11.3 points an outing, while Tyrone Johnson averages 3.4 assists.
MSU holds an 18-10 lead in the all-time series and has won three of the last four meetings in Columbia. The Bulldogs have won three of their last five road games this year after only winning one true road contest in the two previous seasons.
