Savannah Carter Named To SEC Community Service Team

STARKVILLE, Miss. – Savannah Carter made an immediate impact on the Starkville community when she arrived on campus. That impact has earned her a spot on the 2015 SEC Community Service Team that was announced Thursday by the league.
Carter, an Allstate Good Works Team nominee earlier this season, has been actively involved in the community during her two years with the Bulldogs, being selected to represent the women’s basketball program on State’s Student-Athlete Advisory Council.
A member of the Mississippi State M-Club, Carter regularly attends local schools to speak to students. She has been an active participant in Bully’s Book Blitz, an initiative that encourages students on the importance of reading.
She has also volunteered at field day events at area schools, and she has been a guest speaker for the Starkville Boys & Girls Club.
The Tulsa, Okla., native has volunteered with her team the past two years at Starkville’s Travis Outlaw Day, helping run games and interacting with local children.
Last August Carter and her teammates had the opportunity to visit Serra Pearson, student in Hatley, Miss., who was battling a rare illness. During that time, Carter and the Bulldogs presented Pearson with her own Mississippi State jersey and an autographed basketball.
During her inaugural summer on campus, Carter joined former teammate Candace Foster and other area students in carrying a cross through Oktibbeha County as part of a state-wide Fellowship of Christian Athletes initiative.
Carter and the Bulldogs play at No. 2 South Carolina Thursday at 6 p.m. CT on Fox Sports Net South. The Dawgs stay on FSN Sunday at 1 p.m. as they wrap the regular season at Humphrey Coliseum against in-state rival Ole Miss.
Carter and fellow seniors Martha Alwal, Kendra Grant and Jerica James will be honored prior to tip of the team’s “Black Out” contest.
Fans are encouraged to wear black to the regular-season finale, and the first 250 fans receive a free limited edition T-shirt.
