22 Diamond Dawgs Currently In Professional Baseball
STARKVILLE, Miss. – Twenty-two former Mississippi State baseball players are currently in professional baseball, including four currently playing in Big Leagues. Below are their updated stats following games which ended Tuesday, May 6, 2014. Please tweet any corrections to @HailStateBB.
RECENT HIGHLIGHTS
- On May 6, Texas Rangers utility player Mitch Moreland returned to the mound for the first time since 2008 at low Class A Clinton, retiring the side in order against the Rockies.
- Moreland is riding a season-long tying four-game hitting streak and has hit safely in seven of his last nine games overall.
- Philadelphia Phillies closer Jonathan Papelbon is tied for fifth in the MLB with nine saves.
- Tyler Moore had his best game of this young season May 2 at Philadelphia, going 2-for-4 with two runs, including a home run off former Cy Young winner Cliff Lee.
- Devin Jones is tied for the Double A Texas League lead with four wins on the mound (4-1).
- After going 2-0 with a 0.34 ERA in Lansing, Kendall Graveman was promoted to Class A Advanced Dunedin on April 30, joining former MSU teammate Chad Girodo.
- Girodo has yet to allow an earned run in 14.0 innings, holding hitters to a .149 average.
- Girodo’s 11 appearances are tied for seventh in the league.
- In the Class A Advanced California League, Hunter Renfroe is tied for third with seven home runs, ranks fourth with 27 RBIs and is tied for six with 66 total bases.
- Nick Vickerson is tied for ninth in the Class A South Atlantic League with 16 walks.
