Lindgren Named 2014 Olson Award Semifinalist
STARKVILLE, Miss. – Mississippi State junior left-handed pitcher Jacob Lindgren has been named a semifinalist for the 2014 Gregg Olson Award, given annually to college baseball’s breakout player of the year. College Baseball Lineup released the list Friday for the honor named after former Auburn pitcher Gregg Olson.
After lowering his Southeastern Conference ERA from 5.20 in 2013 to a league-low 0.55 this season, the southpaw surpassed his two-year career strikeout total (83) with 93 alone this season. Lindgren leads all relief pitchers nationally in fanned batters and leads the country overall with 16.4 strikeouts per nine innings.
Additionally, the first-team All-SEC selection led the league in SEC-games only in ERA, opponent batting average (.114), fewest hits allowed (13), fewest runs allowed (4) and fewest earned runs allowed (2). Also a candidate for the NCBWA Stopper of the Year Award, Lindgren leads the team with a 0.88 ERA overall and a .116 opponent batting average, while owning a 6-1 record on the season.

Following a January ranking of 138, Perfect Game named Lindgren the 45th-best prospect in the 2014 Major League Baseball Draft earlier this month. The Bay St. Louis, Miss., native is currently riding a streak of 21.1-consecutive innings without an earned run allowed.
