MSU Track Teams Turn Focus Toward NCAA East Prelims

STARKVILLE, Miss. – Following a week off since claiming two individual titles at the SEC Championships, the Mississippi State Track & Field teams return to action this week at the NCAA East Preliminary in Jacksonville, Fla.
The meet, hosted by North Florida at Hodges Stadium, begins Thursday and concludes Saturday evening.
Mississippi State will be represented by 14 athletes in 12 events. Top qualifiers advance to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore., June 11-14.
“I think we are going to Jacksonville with the right mindset,” MSU coach Steve Dudley said. “We’ve had great practices since the SECs, and I know everyone is just ready to compete again.”
The first event Thursday for the Bulldogs is Piotr Antosik in the javelin, followed by Jovan Davis and Scottie Hearn in the 400-meter hurdles and Rhianwedd Price in the 1500-meter run.
Also competing Thursday are All-SEC standouts Brandon McBride in the 800-meter run and Rochelle Farquharson in the long jump. Both won the SEC title in their respective events two weeks ago at Kentucky and earned All-SEC accolades Monday.
In addition, Scottie Hearn and Cornelia Griesche were named second-team All-SEC, while Price was tabbed all-freshman.
