MSU?s Patrasc Begins NCAA Singles Championship Competition Wednesday

STARKVILLE, Miss. - Mississippi State women's tennis sophomore standout Georgiana Patrasc will begin play on Wednesday in the first round of the 2014 NCAA Singles Championship in Athens, Ga.
Entering the postseason with her career-best national ranking at No. 49, the Bulldog sophomore will face Stanford’s Carol Zhao at 1:30 p.m. ET Wednesday. Zhao comes in at No. 21 in the latest ITA rankings and finished the regular season with a 28-5 overall record, 19-1 in dual matches.
Patrasc concluded the regular season with a 23-9 overall mark and went 13-5 in dual matches, with three of her dual match victories coming against ranked opponents. She entered the tournament as an at-large selection, becoming the seventh player in MSU women's tennis history to garner a selection to the NCAA Singles Championship field. The last player to compete in the Singles Championship was Martina Banikova in 2007.
“It is a great accomplishment for Georgiana to qualify for the tournament,” said head coach Daryl Greenan. “All of the top players in the country are going to be here and it is an excellent opportunity for her to test herself among the best.”
