Former Women's Hoops Coach Jerry Henderson Passes Away
STARKVILLE, Miss. – Former Mississippi State women’s basketball coach Jerry Henderson passed away Saturday after battling cancer. He was 72.
Funeral services were held Tuesday morning to remember the impact he made on family and the many students he taught during a lengthy coaching career.
Henderson was the fifth head coach in Mississippi State history, guiding the Bulldogs for six seasons from 1990-95.
He also enjoyed an extensive prep coaching career, mentoring students at Madison-Ridgeland High School, Warren Central, Grace Christian Academy, Starkville Academy and Starkville High School.
Last July Henderson was inducted into the Mississippi Association of Coaches Hall of Fame.
A veteran of the U.S. Air National Guard, Henderson was born June 22, 1941, to the late Bobbie Barham Henderson and Thomas Lynn Henderson.
Henderson is survived by his wife of 51 years, Cricket Filson Henderson; children Leigh Ellen Henderson (Gig Harbor, Wash.), Clinton Douglas Henderson (Ridgeland) Shannon Henderson Paul (Cedar Rapids, Iowa); sister Barbara Henderson Phillips; and two grandchildren.
