Football Opener Set For Primetime On SEC Network

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Mississippi State’s 2014 football season-opener against Southern Miss on Aug. 30 in the newly renovated Davis Wade Stadium at Scott Field will kick off at 6:30 p.m. CT and be televised by the new SEC Network, the Southeastern Conference and ESPN announced on Thursday.
The SEC Network, the national sports network launching Aug. 14 and operated by ESPN, will air a game featuring every football team in the Southeastern Conference within the first four weeks of the 2014 season. The first 16 games, released today by the SEC and ESPN, include a home game from all 14 SEC football stadiums.
The Bulldogs and Golden Eagles are meeting for the first time since Sept. 22, 1990, a game won 13-10 by MSU in Starkville. The 2014 season-opener will be a special one as the Bulldogs celebrate the 100th anniversary of Scott Field.
In conjunction with the centennial celebration, Davis Wade Stadium at Scott Field will become the largest on-campus stadium in the state of Mississippi following a $75 million renovation and expansion that boosts capacity to 61,337.
The SEC Network and its accompanying digital platform will air SEC content 24/7 including more than 1,000 events in its first year. AT&T U-Verse, DISH and National Rural Telecommunications cooperative (NRTC) have agreed to carry the SEC Network as of this date.
