MSU Women 12th In Latest Track And Field Rankings
STARKVILLE, Miss. – Jumping 13 spots from last week’s standings, the Mississippi State women’s track and field team lands at No. 12 in the latest USTFCCCA Team Rankings released on Tuesday.
For the first time this year, only marks from the current season were used to determine the rankings, and as a result, the Bulldogs soared to the top.
"This is the point in the season where you really get to see how you measure up," MSU coach Steve Dudley said. "Only this season's times are used, so there is no skewing for last year's scoring."
Rochelle Farquharson remains at No. 4 in the women’s long jump (21-03.25), while Cornelia Griesche keeps her spot at fifth in the women’s 3000-meter steeplechase with a school-record 10:04.05.
Rhianwedd Price also ranks fifth this week in the women’s 1500-meter run (4:16.11).
While the MSU men aren’t ranked as a team, Dudley’s squad maintains individual rankings in selective events.
Brandon McBride is the NCAA leader in the men’s 800-meter run after a lifetime-best 1:45.35 at Mt. SAC Relays, and Javon Davis rounds out the top-20 in the men’s 400-meter hurdles (51.27).
MSU will host its only home meet of the season, the Jace Lacoste Invitational, on May 3 as Alabama, Florida State, Missouri State, Oklahoma and Virginia Tech travel to Starkville.
