Bougard Earns USTFCCCA South Region Honors

STARKVILLE, Miss. – Junior Erica Bougard was named the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Women’s South Region Field Athlete of the Year, the organization announced on Monday.
After winning the Southeastern Conference pentathlon title with a nation-leading score of 4,458, Bougard captured the SEC Women’s Field Athlete of the Year honor last week. The Byhalia, Miss., native performed her way into the record books at SEC Indoors, having the ninth-best score in collegiate history and improving the school record (previously 4,399).
The Bulldog finished second in the pentathlon high jump at SEC Indoors as she tied her personal-best clearance of 5-10.00. She also claimed a win in the pentathlon long jump in College Station (20-11.25) to rank sixth nationally in the event.
“Erica has accomplished more this season than some athletes accomplish in their career,” MSU coach Steve Dudley said. “She is such an asset to this program, and I’m extremely proud of her. I’m excited to watch her continue to grow.”
Bougard will compete at the NCAA Indoor Championships in Albuquerque, N.M., on March 14-15.
