I knew May would be a busy month with so many Mississippi State teams in the postseason, but I can’t say I expected to be up until nearly 1 a.m. watching the baseball team.
But what a fun game it was, going 17 innings to beat Missouri in our first game of the SEC Tournament last night. Congratulations to Coach Cohen and everyone on the team for a very well-earned win. We’re not too tired to give them a hearty Hail State!
I’ll see all of you again late tonight when our Bulldogs play South Carolina in a game scheduled to start at approximately 7:30-8 p.m. CT.
WOMEN’S GOLF IN NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS
As I type this, Coach Brown-Lemm’s team is one of only 24 in the country left playing, with the winner of the four-day tournament earning a National Championship. Our Lady Bulldogs have had a tremendous season and are still going strong.
To put their success in perspective: this is the first time a team from the state of Mississippi has made it to Nationals.

TENNIS BEGINS NCAA INDIVIDUAL COMPETITION; BOGAERTS NAMED NATIONAL ROOKIE OF THE YEAR
We’ve had quite a few successful individuals in our spring sports and Romain Bogaerts has continued that trend, as he was named the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s Rookie of the Year after his stellar freshman campaign. Congratulations to Romain, who is the fifth seed in NCAA singles competition this week in Champaign, Ill.
Junior Malte Stropp, who won his first-round match today, is also be competing in singles as the 57th-ranked player in the country, and he will pair with freshman Jordan Angus to continue postseason play as the nation's 13th-ranked doubles duo.
Singles play began this afternoon and doubles starts tomorrow. We wish all three of Coach Nilsson’s players the best of luck as they represent the Maroon and White on the national stage. You can follow their matches live online by clicking here.
TRACK AND FIELD BEGINS NCAA PRELIMINARIES THIS WEEK
Speaking of outstanding individual and team performances, Coach Dudley’s track and field teams have been overwhelmingly successful this spring, including two individual National Championships. Our Bulldogs compete in the NCAA East Preliminaries in North Carolina this week, with a trip to Oregon for the championship round on the line.
We have nine men and eight women competing in a total of 14 events, with the top 12 from each event advancing to nationals. Good luck to all of our Bulldogs as they compete at the highest level.
HUNTER RENFROE WINS FERRISS TROPHY
A big, big congratulations to Hunter Renfroe for winning this year’s Ferriss Trophy, named after Bulldog great Boo Ferriss and given annually to the top college baseball player in the state of Mississippi. Hunter has had a tremendous season, both at the plate and in the outfield, and we’re very proud of what he’s done and the young man he is.
We’re also hoping to get to watch Hunter and all of his teammates again at Dudy Noble this season if the impressive tournament resume Coach Cohen’s club has can earn a Regional hosting bid. Fingers crossed, I’ll see all of you in Starkville next weekend.
REGIONAL TICKETS ON SALE SUNDAY NIGHT
With a Top 10 RPI, 40+ wins and one of the toughest schedules in the country, we’re optimistic about our chances to host an NCAA Regional. The host sites and bracket will be announced Sunday night, and tickets for current season ticket holders and Bulldog Club members will be available as soon as the announcement is made, if MSU is hosting. Simply log on through your Dog Tag on HailState.com and order your tickets.
The deadline to purchase is Tuesday, at which point tickets open up to the public for all unclaimed seats.
We appreciate what you do for Mississippi State Athletics and want to encourage you to get others involved. There are three things you can do to help the athletic department at Mississippi State reach its desired goals –
