Pollorena Named To SEC Baseball Community Service Team
STARKVILLE, Miss. --- Mississippi State senior pitcher Luis Pollorena from Laredo, Texas, has been named to the Southeastern Conference’s 2013 Baseball Community Service Team, the league announced Monday.
The SEC supports a Community Service Team for each of its 21 league-sponsored sports, highlighting an athlete from each school who gives back to his or her community in superior service efforts.
Pollorena has participated in the MSU M-Club's annual "Bully's Book Blitz" campaign promoting reading among local elementary school students. He served as a guest speaker to youth groups at the "Fifth Quarter" program at Starkville First United Methodist Church and has shared his faith and life experiences on television as a guest on the syndicated Tammie Tubbs Show.
As a survivor of childhood cancer, Pollorena is an active participant and has been a frequent speaker on campus and in the community at cancer awareness events. Among other activities Pollorena has served as a volunteer for the promotion of reading during the Starkville Junior Auxiliary's campaign at Sudduth Elementary School and joined MSU coaches and athletes serving breakfast to elementary school students participating in the M-Club's "Breakfast of Champions" campaign.
