MSU Concludes NCAAs With All-American Run

DES MOINES, Iowa - Emanuel Mayers career at Mississippi State came to an end Saturday as he ran the second leg of the 4x400-meter relay, and with its conclusion came the end of the 2012 Maroon and White campaign.
Mayers was joined by Tavaris Tate, Daundre Barnaby and James Harris, as the foursome laced up for the Bulldogs' lone event of the day at historic Drake Field for the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Posting a time of 3:05.85, the quartet finished eighth and ended the 2012 season on a high note en route to garnering All-American honors.
"Our athletes competed hard this week," coach Steve Dudley said. "Things just did not seem to go our way. Now we just have to pick ourselves up and get ready for next year."
The SEC captured both overall titles, as Florida brought home the men's championship just ahead of LSU, while on the women's side LSU held off Oregon to claim the crown. The Bulldogs finished 43rd with five points, while the Lady Bulldogs finished in a three way tie for 60th with two points.
With the addition of today's 4x400-meter squad, Marcus Jackson (high jump) and Jody-Ann Muir (400m dash) also concluded the season with first-team All-American honors. Claiming second-team All-American accolades were Nathan Arnett (400m hurdles), Daundre Barnaby (400m dash), Favian Cowards (hammer throw) and the 4x100-meter team of D'Angelo Cherry, Jarrett Samuels, Justin Christian and Tate.
