Stratton First Round Pick Of San Francisco Giants

Stratton (11-2, 2.38), the SEC Pitcher of the Year, ranks first or second in the SEC in wins, earned run average and strikeouts.
Stratton is the third player from the Southeastern Conference player chosen in this year's draft, joining Florida catcher Mike Zunino (No. 3 pick) and LSU pitcher Kevin Gausman (No. 4 pick).
A semifinalist for the Golden Spikes Award and Dick Howser Trophy, both national player of the year awards, Stratton was named the recipient of the C Spire Ferriss Trophy last month, presented annually to the top collegiate baseball player in Mississippi. Today he was named one of five semifinalists for the College Baseball Hall of Fame Pitcher of the Year Award.
Will Clark, winner of the 1985 Golden Spikes Award, stands as the highest draft selection among MSU players, going to the San Francisco Giants as the second overall pick in 1985.
Stratton paced the Bulldog pitching staff, which posted an SEC-leading 2.58 staff earned run average. Mississippi State (40-24) advanced to its 32nd NCAA postseason berth and notched its 18th 40-win campaign this year.
