MSU Signees Are Top Two Women's Golfers In State Of Alabama

TROY, Ala. – Fresh off of her match play run at the U.S. Women’s Public Links, Mississippi State women’s golf signee Gabi Oubre’ captured the Alabama Girls State Junior title on Thursday afternoon in thrilling fashion to earn the No. 1 ranking among Alabama golfers.
“I really wanted to win this week and close out my junior career in this way. I tried to enjoy it and have fun to help take the pressure off,” Oubre’ said of her win on Thursday at the Troy County Club.
The Mobile, Ala., native also won the event in 2009 and has played in four consecutive U.S. Junior Girls Amateurs. Oubre’ posted a score of 74-72-70-216 to overcome defending champion Alex Harrell and fellow MSU signee Logan Chaney by one.
Chaney finished the tournament with scores of 74-74-69-217 to tie for second at the 49th annual State Junior Championship. The Scottsboro, Ala. native and No.2 ranked golfer in the state, had a good showing a week ago at the Women’s State Amateur as she finished in the semifinals of that championship.
