Banks Named To Blue Ribbon's Preseason All-SEC Team
STARKVILLE, Miss. - Mississippi State senior cornerback Johnthan Banks was named to Blue Ribbon College Football Yearbook's preseason 2012 All-Southeastern conference team, the publication announced Tuesday.
In addition to his nod from Blue Ribbon, Banks has also been named a preseason All-American by Phil Steele, as well as a first-team player on Steele's All-SEC defensive team and a third-team member of Steele's All-SEC special teams' squad. Earlier this month, the ball-hawking corner was named preseason All-SEC first team in a vote by the league's 14 football information directors for the Birmingham News' 66th annual Spring SEC Football Preview.
Individually, Banks was also named to the 2012 Lott IMPACT Trophy Watch list in May, presented annually to college football's Defensive Player of the Year who best exemplifies Integrity, Maturity, Performance, Academics, Community and Tenacity.
The only cornerback in the SEC last year to rack up at least 70 tackles and record five interceptions, Banks was named to the 2011 All-SEC second team by the AP and the All-SEC third team by Phil Steele. The Maben, Miss., native was a finalist for the Conerly Trophy and was a semifinalist for the Jim Thorpe Award.
