Chris Stratton Named To Baseball America's All-America Team

The Tupelo, Miss., native has been named to the first unit of Baseball America's 2012 All-America Team. Earlier he received first-team all-America team accolades from Collegiate Baseball newspaper and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. Stratton compiled an 11-2 record with a save, a 2.38 earned run average and 127 strikeouts in helping guide Mississippi State to the 2012 SEC Baseball Tournament championship and the program's 32nd advancement to NCAA postseason competition. The right-hander piled up an SEC season-most 17 strikeouts against LSU in his first start of the campaign, sharing top national honors in 2012 with Duke's Marcus Stroman for the most strikeouts in a game.
Stratton and the Bulldog pitching staff combined for a 2.58 earned run average, tops in the SEC and just behind the NCAA-leading 2.57 staff ERA compiled by Missouri State.
Stratton has also been named to the ABCA All-South Region Baseball team and is now on the ballot for all-America team honors bestowed by the American Baseball Coaches Association. He was the 20th player selected in the 2012 MLB First-Year Player Draft and is expected to draw his first professional assignment with the Salem-Keizer (Ore.) Volcanoes in the Northwest League.
