Adam Frazier Named To USA Baseball National Collegiate Team
STARKVILLE, Miss. -- Mississippi State sophomore shortstop Adam Frazier has never traveled outside the United States. That's likely to change in the months ahead.
The Bulldog infielder from Bishop, Ga., has been named to the 2012 USA Baseball National Collegiate Team, coached by Tennessee head coach Dave Serrano. The team's 30-day, 20-game summer schedule includes a five-game series against the Cuban national team in Havana, Cuba, and participation in the 26th annual Haarlem Baseball Week in the Netherlands.
"It's a real honor and like a dream come true to be competing on a team wearing a jersey with USA on the front," he said. "I was speechless when Coach Cohen told me about it," he said.
Frazier, the only Bulldog to have started all 55 regular season games this year, has compiled a .360 batting average this spring, tops on the team and the fifth-highest in the Southeastern Conference. He leads the SEC with 192 assists and 45 walks, ranks second in on-base percentage, sixth with 76 hits and second with 40 double plays fielded.
"Adam has worked hard to put himself in a position for an honor like this, and he is most deserving of it," said Mississippi State head baseball coach John Cohen "And it really is an honor, especially when you consider the huge pool of talented college players they have to choose from. This is an experience of a lifetime and we are really proud of his being selected to the USA team."
Frazier becomes the latest addition to the list of Mississippi State players selected in years past to compete for USA Baseball. That group includes the likes of eventual Major League performers Will Clark (1984), Carlton Loewer (1993), Matt Ginter (1998) and Eric DuBose (1995-96).
The Collegiate National Team begins its preseason training camp June 24 in Cary, N.C.
