Stratton Named To Midseason Watch List For 2012 Golden Spikes Award
Earlier this week Stratton earned SEC Pitcher of the Week honors for the second time this season following a career-first complete-game shutout win over instate SEC rival Ole Miss at Dudy Noble Field. The former Tupelo (Miss.) High School standout sports an SEC-leading 8-0 record and ranks fifth in the NCAA with a career-best 95 strikeouts. Stratton scattered five hits and walked one batter in registering his second consecutive nine-inning pitching performance.
The watch list will be pared to 30 semifinalists May 29, with the announcement of this year's recipient set for July 6.
Since its inception in 1978, five players from the Southeastern Conference have received college baseball's top award, including former Mississippi State first baseman Will Clark (1985). Sixteen players from the SEC are included in the 60-player watch list announced Tuesday by USA Baseball.
