Bulldogs Add Transfer Sasha Vrany
STARKVILLE, Miss. - Mississippi State soccer coach Neil Macdonald announced Tuesday former Incarnate Word and Czech U19 National Team member Sasha Vrany has transferred to join the Bulldogs for the 2012 season.
The Ottawa, Canada, native joins the Bulldogs after starting all 35 games during her first two seasons for the NCAA Division II-affiliated Cardinals. While in San Antonio, Vrany collected a goal and two assists.
In March, 2011, Vrany was selected to the Czech U19 National Team Camp. She earned a spot on the squad and claimed her first international cap after playing against Switzerland in the Euro Cup qualifier hosted by the Ukraine.
"We are excited to have a player of Sasha's caliber joining the program. Her experience at the international and collegiate levels will be a valuable asset for us in the midfield," Macdonald said. "Sasha uses the ball very well, and she is a solid passer. What I really like about Sasha is that she is a competitor who has a great engine between the 18s."
Vrany played on the prep level for Lisgar Collegiate Institute, where she earned MVP of the soccer team in addition to being a standout on the swimming and track squads.
She played club soccer for the Ottawa Fury, claiming team MVP accolades in 2008 after being named to Super Y-League North American All-Star team.
Vrany was born Aug. 7, 1992, in Ottawa. She is the daughter of Vladimir and Nada Vrany.
