Calvesbert Invited To Play In The PGA Tour Puerto Rico Open

The Guaynabo, Puerto Rico-native earned a sponsor's exemption into the event by being the current Puerto Rico Amateur Champion. He clinched the 2011 Puerto Rico Amateur Championship at the Palmas Athletic Club with a 1-under-par 71 in the final round. He finished with a four-day total of 295.
"We're excited for Robi to get an opportunity to play in his first PGA Tour event in his home country," MSU coach Clay Homan said. "I knew he will represent his family and Mississippi State with class and dignity."
Last year as a sophomore for MSU, Calvesbert earned appearances in eight tournaments and 24 rounds posting a 74.30 scoring average along with a 225.9 average tournament score. He posted a season-best 69 in the second round of the Sam Hall Intercollegiate where he notched his season-low tournament total of 211 to open the season.
Calvesbert competed in 11 of MSU's 12 tournaments during the 2009-10 season, posting the team's second-best stroke average at 74.30. He was MSU's top finisher a team-best four times as a true freshman in back-to-back-to-back-to-back weeks. Calvesbert tied the low round by any Bulldog in the fall of 2009 with a 67 fired in the second round at the David Toms Invite, tying him for 11th all-time in the State record book.
Prior to coming to MSU Calvesbert was the runner-up in the Puerto Rico Junior Golf Championships in 2007, 2008 and 2009. He was the first ranked amateur in 2008 season for the PRGA Players Tour and the Caribbean Junior Golf Champion in 2008.
