Reed Nominated For SEC Community Service Post-Graduate Scholarship

The SEC Community Service Post-Graduate Scholarship is named for former SEC Associate Commissioner Brad Davis, who succumbed to cancer on March 2, 2006. The scholarship recognizes the superior community service efforts of graduating SEC student-athletes and honors the memory of Davis, who had been a member of the SEC staff since 1988, first serving as an assistant commissioner until 1994 when he was promoted to associate commissioner.
Reed, from Cleveland, Miss., and a former Bayou Academy standout, has starred on the field, in the classroom and in the Mississippi State University community throughout his four-year collegiate career.
A member of the 2011 SEC Baseball Community Service Team, Reed Participated in the SEC's "Together We Can" food drive and the ongoing "Soles4Souls" campaign, collecting shoes to send to underprivileged youth in Kenya. He has participated in MSU's annual Bully's Book Blitz, a program designed to encourage reading among local elementary students, and has frequently spoken to youth groups at local churches, promoting scholarship and citizenship. Reed has also been a volunteer with the Starkville Habitat for Humanity projects.
Reed, a pre-season All-American and candidate for the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association 2012 Stopper of the Year Award, is a co-captain of this year's Bulldog squad and a pre-season All-American pitcher. He earned second-team All-Southeastern Conference honors in 2011 after leading Mississippi State and ranking third in the SEC in both earned run average (1.55) and saves (12). He leads the 2012 club with five saves and sports a 3.00 ERA this spring and begins the weekend tied for fourth at MSU with 72 career relief appearances and 17 career saves.
A three-time SEC Academic Honor Roll selection, Reed, the son of Teresa and Bob Reed of Cleveland, Miss., is on schedule to earn an undergraduate degree in business administration in May.
The Southeastern Conference will announce the name of the male and female recipients of the 2012 Davis Community Service Post-Graduate Scholarship winners April 5.
