McDonald Wins MSU's First SEC Women's Golfer Of The Week Award

"God continues to bless me, and I can't give Him enough credit," McDonald said. "It is such an honor to recognized for my performance on the course. We are steadily getting better, and I'm so thankful to be apart of the program we are building here at Mississippi State."
Her opening-round 70 at the John Kirk/Panther Intercollegiate tied for the fourth-best opening round in the MSU record books. By shooting a 71 for the second round, she carded MSU's third-best 36-hole score at 3-under-par 141.
The Fulton-native fired a final-round 71 to tally a 212 for the event. The 4-under card tied Carri Wood's 212 in the 1991 LSU/Fairwood Invitational for the second-best tournament clip in Maroon and White history.
Along with fellow freshman Rica Tse, the duo became the only pair of freshmen in State's history to card Top 5's for the same event.
McDonald owns the fourth-best scoring average among SEC Freshmen, which is on pace to break MSU's all-time scoring average record for a single season.
She led the Lady Bulldogs to a second-place finish, the program's best finish since 2006. The team also recorded the second-lowest opening round clip (289), fourth-best 36-hole score (592), and fifth-best 54-hole card (891).
"Ally exemplifies what we are doing with women's golf here at Mississippi State," MSU coach Ginger Brown-Lemm said. "She has the talent, work ethic and drive to be an All-American. She has been knocking on the door of her first win for sometime now. She played a very solid three rounds for her second-place finish. We are excited she is here to lead the ascent of our golf program back to an elite level."
The Lady Bulldogs return to action April 6 at the Lady Rebel Intercollegiate hosted by in-state rival Ole Miss in Oxford.
