MSU Lady Bulldog Tennis Heads To Tuscaloosa

STARKVILLE, Miss. - Mississippi State's Lady Bulldog tennis will begin SEC play with competition against No. 25 Alabama and Auburn University this weekend. Friday's competition in Tuscaloosa will begin at 3 p.m. The Lady Bulldogs will take on No. 66 Auburn at 12 p.m. on Sunday.
Mississippi State's last match against the Golden Eagles of Southern Miss resulted in an impressive 7-0 triumph in favor of the Lady Bulldogs, advancing MSU to 4-3 overall.
Sophomore Alexandra Perper stands at 7-0 in singles play so far this spring, and is now ranked at No. 91 after notching a ranked victory against No. 68 Samantha Vickers of Tulsa last weekend. Perper and Olesya Tsigvintseva pair up to land the No. 44 position in ITA doubles ranking as well.
In Alabama's most recent competition, the Crimson Tide fell 4-3 to No. 6 Virginia in the Blue-Gray National Tennis Classic in Montgomery, Ala. Alabama boasts two ranked singles players. Sophomore Mary Anne Macfarlane is ranked at No. 21, and junior Alexa Guarachi is ranked at No. 61. Guarachi and Macfarlane are ranked at No. 26 as a doubles pair. Courtney McLane and Guarachi come in at No. 30 as a doubles duo.
Coming in at No. 66, Auburn brings one ranked player to the table. Sophomore Olivia Bennett stands at No. 125 nationally according to the latest ITA rankings. The Lady Tigers defeated MSU 4-1 in their last meeting.
