Bulldogs Begin Summer Workouts; 15 Football Newcomers Begin Classes
STARKVILLE, Miss. -
Mississippi State head football coach Dan Mullen welcomed the 2011 Bulldog
football squad back to campus on Wednesday as first summer term classes began.
Joining the returning players are 15 new enrollees beginning their Mississippi
State careers.
"It's great to have these guys here and to get them working toward the fall," Mullen said. "The freshmen have a long way to go, but they're going to get there. Having them on campus in June is a big first step in their development as SEC student-athletes, both on the field and in the classroom."
Freshmen enrolling in summer classes include Dee Arrington, Taveze Calhoun, Devin Fosselman, Zachary Jackson, P.J. Jones, Daniel Knox, James Maiden, Justin Malone, Kendrick Market, Benardrick McKinney, Derrick Milton, Joe Morrow, Preston Smith and Rufus Warren.
Joining the freshmen newcomers is transfer Brandon Maye. Maye, a senior linebacker, played three seasons at Clemson. A native of Mobile, Ala., Maye started 33 games for the Tigers, compiling 233 total tackles. A three-time Academic All-ACC selection, he graduated with his bachelor's degree in May.
Mississippi State begins its 2011 season Thursday, September 1 at Memphis.
