Inaugural Maroon Tee Classic Huge Success

STARKVILLE, Miss. – With donors from across the state participating at Old Waverly Golf Club on Monday, the inaugural Maroon Tee Classic hosted by the Mississippi State golf programs was a huge success.
The Maroon Tee Classic is an event established to share the vision for the golf programs at Mississippi State and help raise funds for the continued expansion of MSU golf facilities. Because of the generosity and donations of the Old Waverly Golf Club and the Bryan Family, Mr. Robert Sanford, the Nelson family, the Hixon family and many others, the Maroon Tee Club was able to raise over $25,000 through the event and add multiple memberships to the organization.
With a record-setting 55, the team of Wilkes Bryan, Mike Shivets, Will Kelly and Gibb Fox are the first Maroon Tee Classic champions.
PGA Champions Tour player Jim Gallagher, Jr., lent his services to the participants on the 140-yard, par-3 12th hole. Hitting only one shot for each team, Gallagher notched a hole-in-one for the group of Mickey Hankins, Dennis Presley, Phil Silva and Barrett Edens.
“What a fantastic time to be a Bulldog,” women’s coach Ginger Brown-Lemm said. “We were able to bring a group of golfers together from all over the state and enjoyed a great day of golf at Old Waverly Golf Club. We were able to raise awareness and communicate our plans for phase two of our facility expansion. Next year, our goal is to have 22 teams participating.”
Next year’s Maroon Tee Classic is scheduled for May 7, 2012, at Old Waverly Golf Club.
