ROAD DAWGS TOUR GREETED WITH ENTHUSIASM
We began the Road Dawgs Tour Monday of this week, and in conjunction with our friends over at the Alumni Association, Coach Mullen and Coach Hazelwood and some of our staff were able to meet and greet a lot of good Mississippi State folks at each stop along the way. It was obvious there was excitement and passion for the university at each stop.
Every stop on the tour was a highlight. Bulldog fans across the Magnolia State are having fun and it showed with each visit. The tour opened with a sponsor stop at BancorpSouth in Jackson. We had a lunch meeting in Brookhaven and dinner in Biloxi. In both places, the food was outstanding and only exceeded by the fellowship. Everyone enjoyed talking about Mississippi State.
There was a tremendous turnout at our first Tuesday stop in Lucedale. We made another sponsor visit in Laurel and had a great lunch there. We finished our second day on tour with another great time in Meridian last night.
After finishing this column, I’ll catch back up with the Tour later today with stops in Vicksburg and Greenville. Hopefully, our visit will be a welcome distraction from the challenges faced by all of our friends along the Mississippi River.
ROKER WELCOMED TO OUR STATENBC News Today Show co-host and Weather Channel personality Al Roker was in Vicksburg this morning covering the flooding along the Mississippi River. Al reported from outside Golding Barge Line, owned by Bulldog Club members Steve and Melody Golding. Steve shared the photo on the right of Bulldog Rob Sadler welcoming Al to the Magnolia State and bestowing upon him honorary Mississippi State fan status. Welcome to Our State, Al.
FOOTBALL SEASON TICKET UPDATE
It looks like it will be another couple of weeks before our ticket office is able to work through the processing of football season ticket renewals. And it appears that it will be an incredibly high renewal rate. Hopefully, by the end of the month we will know how many, if any, season tickets were not renewed.
At this point, we have more than 1,400 orders from new customers or existing season ticket holders who want to add to their previous allotment. It is estimated that these orders represent just short of 3,700 season tickets on the waiting list.
JACK CRISTIL RECEIVES ANOTHER AWARD
The Mississippi Legislature has approved the naming of Highway 82 within the Starkville city limits as Jack Cristil Highway. The university will host an event with the Mississippi Department of Transportation and city of Starkville at the Colvard Student Union, Monday, June 20 at 2 p.m.
Dr. Keenum, Mayor Wiseman, Jim Ellis and MDOT Commissioner Mike Tagart will speak, and then unveil a miniature replica of the large signs that will be erected that day on Highway 82. Jack will also make some remarks.
MEN’S TENNIS ON ITS WAY TO NCAA REGIONALS
Coach Per Nilsson and our SEC Western Division championship men’s tennis team departed today for NCAA regional competition at Georgia Tech. Our 21st-ranked team plays No. 47-ranked Florida State Friday at 9 am CT in the first round. Should we win, our team would play again Saturday at 2 pm CT against the #15 Georgia Tech/Middle Tennessee winner. Two wins and we’re in the NCAA round of 16 at Stanford, which begins May 19.
IT’S A MAROON FRIDAY IN OUR STATE
The spring semester is complete and our teams’ competition is winding down. But our school colors never take a break on Friday. Are you in the maroon?
We appreciate what you do for Mississippi State Athletics and want to encourage you to get others involved. There are three things you can do to help the athletic department at Mississippi State reach its desired goals –
1. Buy Season Tickets
2. Financially Support the Bulldog Club
3. Get Others To Do The Same
Thanks for taking the time to read this Update.
Go Dawgs!
