Wednesday Bulldog Update - 3/9/11

Shortly, the Directors of Athletics from the 12 conference schools will meet to discuss this event, as well as other league business, at the Marriott Marquis Hotel, a few blocks from here.
On Friday, before our team takes the floor at the Georgia Dome, I will join many other Mississippi State fans at a “meet-and-greet” opportunity. That event, sponsored by the local Atlanta-area MSU Alumni Association chapter, will be held at STATS (300 Marietta St. NW), just a couple of blocks from the Dome. The social will run between 6 pm and 9 pm. I hope you can join us.
Coach Stansbury and his Bulldogs will tip off against the Vanderbilt/LSU winner at approximately 10 pm ET Friday night. Our team needs a great turnout of Maroon and White-clad fans to cheer them to victory.

CONGRATULATIONS TO RILEY BENOCK, DEE BOST
Senior guard/forward Riley Benock made it a Mississippi State clean sweep of the SEC’s premier academic awards this year. Riley became the second Bulldog in school history to receive the SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year, but more impressively, joined Lady Bulldog Mary Kathryn Govero in becoming just the second duo from the same school to win those awards during the same season.
Riley has a 3.97 grade point average and will graduate in May with an undergraduate degree in kinesiology. In six of his first seven semesters at State, he has recorded a 4.0 GPA.
For the second-straight season, Dee was named second-team, all-SEC by the league’s coaches.

BASKETBALL TOURNEY ACTIVITY ALTERS BASEBALL TIMES
When our men’s basketball tournament schedule was finalized last week, it enabled us to re-work our weekend baseball series schedule with Sacred Heart. To prevent direct conflicts, Coach Cohen and his team will take on SHU Friday night at 5 and Saturday evening at 6. Those times will permit our folks to watch, and our radio network to air, our men’s basketball tournament games on Friday (9 pm CT) and the potential semifinal on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. Due to Sacred Heart’s travel requirements, no alteration can be made on the Sunday game time (1:30 p.m.) should the men’s basketball team gain a berth in the championship game in Atlanta.

We appreciate what you do for Mississippi State Athletics and want to encourage you to get others involved. There are three things you can do to help the athletic department at Mississippi State reach its desired goals –
1. Buy Season Tickets
2. Financially Support the Bulldog Club
3. Get Others To Do The Same
Thanks for taking the time to read this Update.
Go Dawgs!
