Bulldogs Take To The Track For Last Chance Meet

STARKVILLE, Miss. - Let the madness of March begin. The mystery of being on the bubble spans off the court and onto the track as the 24th ranked Mississippi State Track and Field team returns to Fayetteville, Ark. for the Last Chance Meet.
After wrapping the regular season of indoor track and field with an impressive USA Indoor Championship meet, that saw freshman James Harris and junior D’Angelo Cherry automatically qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships and several top times that propelled the Bulldogs to a No. 24 national ranking, the Bulldogs are getting one final shot to qualify for the NCAAs. In total, seven men will make the trip to compete at the Last Chance Meet, which begins on Friday.
“Our main mission for this weekend is to get our guys qualified for nationals,” head coach Steve Dudley said. “We especially want to get the men’s 4x400 qualified. We are going to be doing that without Tavaris [Tate] who is injured, so we are going to see where our depth on the team is. We are coming off a really impressive weekend at the USA Indoor Championships and I hope we carry that momentum into the Last Chance.”
Making the trip for MSU will be the men’s 4x400m relay team of junior O’neal Wilder, sophomore Daundre Barnaby, senior Emanuel Mayers, and freshman James Harris, who will also compete in the 400m dash with freshman Randy Patterson and fellow relay member Barnaby. Mayers will also pull double duty this weekend as he competes in the 110m hurdles, in addition to his relay responsibilities. Joining the aforementioned Bulldogs in competition will be junior Justin Christian in the 60m dash and freshman Marcus Jackson will be the lone field athlete as he competes in the high jump.
NCAA selections will be announced Monday, March 7. The NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships will take place March 11-12 at Texas A&M in College Station.
