Lady Bulldog Golf Preps For John Kirk/Panther Intercollegiate
STOCKBRIDGE, Ga. – For only the second time in program history, the Mississippi State women’s golf team will tee off in the John Kirk/Panther Intercollegiate. MSU will tee off on Monday for 36 holes followed with 18 holes on Tuesday. Hosted by Georgia State, the tournament is being played at Eagles Landing Country Club in Stockbridge, Ga.
The Lady Bulldogs will tee up against 14 other schools including Arkansas State, Daytona State, East Tennessee State, Georgia State, James Madison, Maryland, Miami, Michigan, Middle Tennessee State, Murray State, Notre Dame, Central Florida, Western Carolina and Xavier.
State is coming off a tough tournament field at the LSU Tiger Classic. Coach Ginger Brown-Lemm thinks the team learned from the experience and improved throughout the week.
“We
are looking forward to this week,” she said. “We have some confidence after a
productive few days of very focused practice and some much deserved fun. I
expect good play in this event and look forward to the results that will allow
us to continue our ascent in the rankings."
The Maroon and White are led by its senior duo Mallory Batson and Erika Thornton. Both have made every tournament thus far in the season and lead the team in stroke average per round and per tournament.
Sophomore Maria Roos is coming off her strongest tournament of her career. Firing a 226 on the treacherous greens at the University Club in Baton Rouge, La., Roos finished atop the Lady Bulldogs leader board for the first and missed a top-20 finish by only one stroke.
Freshmen Mary Langdon Gallagher and Esther Huffman will also be making the trip to Georgia for the lady linksters. Gallagher owns the second-best finish by a Lady Bulldog this season. She tied for 11th in the Prices Give ‘Em Five Invitational during the fall. Huffman had a strong return to the links during the LSU Tiger Classic after battling an injury. She finished tied for third on the team with a 248 on the Bayou.
The Lady Bulldogs will tee off on Monday at 10:00 a.m. CT with a shotgun start.
