MSU Opens Outdoor Season This Weekend In Louisiana

STARKVILLE, Miss. – Warmer weather means only one thing for Mississippi State’s track and field teams, the beginning of outdoor season and another run toward national prominence.
The 2011 season officially gets underway Saturday when the Bulldog squads travel to Lafayette, La., to take part in the 2011 Louisiana Classics Track & Field Meet at the Ragin’ Cajuns Track/Soccer Facility.
It will be MSU’s first event outside since concluding the 2010 season at the NCAA championships in Eugene, Ore., last summer, where the likes of Kendall May, Emanuel Mayers, Tavaris Tate, O’Neal Wilder and Jody-Ann Muir garnered All-American honors.
That weekend, the Bulldogs returned home after placing 17th nationally, while the Lady Bulldogs placed 41st.
“I am excited to get the entire team back together and start fresh in competition,” first-year MSU coach Steve Dudley said. “We have a new home track for practice, and I feel that it has given us an advantage and has us substantially more prepared going into this meet. We are going to go out there give it our all and hopefully start qualifying for nationals right from the start.”
Joining the Bulldogs in competition will be SEC foe LSU, meet host Louisiana-Lafayette, Tulane, South Alabama, Alcorn State, McNeese State, Northwestern State, Southeastern Louisiana, and Louisiana.-Monroe.
The meet will feature eight field events and 13 running events. Action will begin Saturday morning with field events at 10:00 am and track starting at 1:00 pm.
Live results during the meet will be available at RaginCajuns.com.
