Dogs Weather Cold In Last Practice Prior To Spring Break

STARKVILLE, Miss. - The Mississippi State football team had been forced inside the climate-controlled environs of the Palmeiro Center in each of its last two practices, so there was no doubt head coach Dan Mullen wanted to keep his troops outdoors here on Thursday afternoon. Despite temperatures that dropped into the mid 40s and biting winds ripping across the practice fields, the Bulldogs enjoyed a full day of work outside in full gear for the first time this spring.
"We got a lot done today," Mullen said. "Did some things in the kicking game that we haven't worked on yet and we went full contact for the last few periods."
While the offense prevailed by the slightest of margins in the day-long tally of points, the head coach was pleased with the effort he saw from both sides of the ball.
"The offense came out on top, but it was close the whole day. And that's what we're trying to teach right now is that the margin for error is so small, and you never know what one play is going to make the difference," Mullen said.
Following practice, a pair of former Bulldog standouts, Anthony Dixon and Kyle Love - both now playing in the National Football League, stopped by to say a few words of encouragement to the team.
The Bulldogs will work out tomorrow morning before dismissing for the university's spring holiday next week. The team will return to work the following week with meetings and workouts before hitting the practice fields again on March 24.
State will return to work after the break and continue preparations for the Maroon-White Game on April 9.
