Lady Bulldogs To Host A Pair Of Non-Conference Matches

STARKVILLE, Miss - Mississippi State women's tennis team is set to host Southern Miss. and Troy State on Saturday, February 19 and Sunday, February 20. Both match times are set for 1 p.m. CT and will be played at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre where admission is free to all home matches.
"We have faced some adversity and it has been a tough start to the season," coach Daryl Greenan said. "As long as our health continues to improve we will see stronger performances on the court. We are young and hopefully we can get a couple in the win column this weekend to boost our confidence. We look forward to practicing outdoors all week and seeing plenty of fans out this weekend for Campus Kids' Day on Saturday and our first outdoor matches."
MSU women's tennis has so far dominated the affair with Southern Miss. as they are 30-3 all time against the Lady Golden Eagles. Since 1980, the Lady Bulldogs are undefeated against USM and hold an astounding 21-1 record over the in-state opponent since 1974.
In his first match against Southern Miss. last spring, Greenan led MSU to a 5-2 victory, giving him a career 1-0 record against the Lady Golden Eagles
Sunday, the Lady Bulldogs face a Troy State team that has also been quite unsuccessful against MSU. Since 2004, Mississippi State is 5-1 against the Trojans and have won three-straight since 2007. This will be Greenan's first time to face Troy in his two year tenure with MSU.
In last weekend's match against Georgia State, Mississippi State freshmen Roseline Dion and Vivian Pietraroia won on courts 5 and 6 for their first dual match victories as Lady Bulldogs.
Also, during Saturday's match against Southern Miss., the Lady Bulldogs will be hosting a USTA Campus Kids' Day where fans are encouraged to participate in promotions and activities between singles and doubles play. Food and beverages will be provided and are free and open to all.
