MSU Signee Gallagher Wins Mississippi State Golf Amateur Crown

Madison, Miss. - Mississippi State incoming freshman Mary Langdon Gallagher took home the Mississippi Women's Golf Amateur Championship Thursday, defeating defending champion Virginia Grimes 1 up at the Reunion Golf and Country Club in Madison, Miss.
The daughter of Jim Gallagher, a five-time winner on the PGA tour and Cissye Gallagher, an 11-time MWGA State Amateur champion, Mary Langdon won four rounds of match play en route to the championship.
"I still can't believe it," said Gallagher. "I was hoping for a faceoff with my mom but when she was defeated in the semifinals, she came out to be my caddy and really helped me out today. It was very exciting."
In a round-of-16 matchup, Gallagher advanced with a 4 and 3 victory over April Lee. She followed in the quarterfinals with a 2 and 1 victory over former Mississippi State golfer Gina Sharp. In her semifinals matchup, Gallagher faced off with current Mississippi State golfer Perry Katherine Furr, winning 3 and 2 to advance to the final.
In the final match, Gallagher was 1 up entering the final hole as she squared the hole with Grimes, solidifying the win.
